In inorganic chemistry, compounds with OH generally are bases (NaOH, KOH, Al(OH)3, etc). In organic chemistry, an OH attached to a C is an alcohol. -COOH is an acid. C-O-C is an ether.
RCOOH = acids
ROR ethers
RCOOR = esters
RNH2 amines
RCONH2 amides.
