One big debate at the Constitutional Convention was about how to count people for representation in Congress. Some states wanted to count every person, including enslaved people. Other states said that they shouldn't count enslaved people at all because they were not treated like everybody else. The Founding Fathers talked a lot about this issue and then came up with a compromise called the Three-Fifths Compromise. This meant that every three out of five enslaved people would be counted when deciding how many representatives each state could have in Congress. This way, both sides got something they wanted, and it helped them work together to create the Constitution.
