North American river otters are a species whose population can indicate the degree of health in the surrounding environment. The otters experienced a sharp decrease in numbers in the 1900s. This was due to fur trapping and pollution. They are not considered endangered today, though.

but I have one question for you... How do you know it's correct. Have you taken the quiz or something?
The original sentences went from neutral to negative to positive. That positive sentence needs to be reinforced in the conclusion by another positive, not a negative.
