Good atmospheric ozone, found in the stratosphere, forms the ozone layer that absorbs harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, protecting living organisms on Earth. Conversely, bad atmospheric ozone, or tropospheric ozone, is created at ground level through chemical reactions between pollutants from vehicles and industrial sources in the presence of sunlight and can harm human health and the environment. While good ozone is concentrated in the stratosphere, bad ozone is distributed unevenly in the troposphere, often at higher levels in urban areas during sunny, warm conditions.
