To analyze the given activity, follow these steps to answer the questions:
1. At what time of day is heat flow into the atmosphere (Hin) greatest?
- To determine this, observe the values in the TABLE tab. Look for the largest value of Hin. Note the corresponding time of day when it occurs.
2. At what time of day is heat flow into the atmosphere (Hin) least?
- Similarly, observe the values in the TABLE tab and look for the smallest value of Hin. Note the corresponding time of day when it occurs.
3. Does heat flow out of the atmosphere (Hout) change during the day?
- Examine the values of Hout in the TABLE tab. Compare the values at different times of day and determine if there is any significant change or consistent pattern.
4. At what time of day is surface temperature highest? Lowest?
- Look for the highest value of surface temperature in the TABLE tab and note the corresponding time of day when it occurs. Similarly, find the lowest value of surface temperature and note its corresponding time of day.
After answering these questions, you can proceed with the activity by clicking on "Reset" in the Gizmo and setting the simulation speed to slow. Additionally, make sure the greenhouse gases level is set to 10% to perform the required analysis.
