an isoceles triangle given the base and a leg whose measure are 4cm and 3cm respectively?

1 answer

If you are trying to find the area of the triangle you could use trig to find the height of the triangle and then use the formula 1/2 base x height.

So draw the Isoceles triangle with each leg 3cm and the base 4cm

Draw a centre line forming two right angled triangles

find the angle of the lower corner of the triangle(it doesnt matter which one)

Using cos = adj/hyp
therefore cos = 2/3

then say sin(48.1896...)= h/3 to find the height

h= 2.236...

once the height is found multiply half base by height.

2x2.236...= 4.4721...
