While many biomolecules contain hydrogen, it is not a defining trait of all biomolecules, as there are some compounds that can be considered biomolecules that may not have hydrogen as an essential component in their structure. In contrast, covalent bonds, nitrogen elements (as in amino acids and nucleotides), and a carbon backbone are fundamental characteristics of biomolecules.
