Let the amount of water in Container B be x litres.
Then, the amount of water in Container A is 3x litres.
And the amount of water in Container C is (x - 2.5) litres.
The total amount of water in the three containers is 17 litres, so we have:
x + 3x + (x - 2.5) = 17
5x - 2.5 = 17
5x = 19.5
x = 3.9
Therefore, the amount of water in Container B is 3.9 litres.
