Also with net discount I mean the answer in percent. Please can anyone help me!!!
Suppose that the cost of each of the origininal bools was $x per book
So the cost was 50x
He got a 10% discount, so the cost was (.9)50x
= 45x
but for 45x he actually got 60 books
so the cost of each book was only 45x/60
= 3x/4
As a percentage: (3x/4) / x
= 3/4 or 75%
which would be an effective discount of 25%
Illustration:
suppose he ordered 50 books at $12 each
cost would have been $600
but he got a 10% discount, so his cost would have been $540
But for $540 he got 60 books, so cost of each book
= $540/60 = $9.00
actual discount = $3.00
rate of discount = 3/12 = .25 = 25%
