a steel pipe of length 7.234m must be divided into four equal length. the saw blade is 2mm thick how long will each of the four lengths will each of the four lengths be?

The pipe will be cut in three places.

Between the first and second parts, between the second
and third parts and between the third and fourth parts.

The saw blade is 2 mm thick, so 3 ∙ 2 mm = 6 mm of pipe will be lost.

1 m = 1000 mm

7.234 m = 7234 mm

7234 mm pipe - 6 mm loss = 7228 mm

7228 mm / 4 = 1807 mm

Or:

L = ( 7234 - 3 ∙ 2 ) / 4

where L is the length of one part

L = ( 7234 - 6 ) / 4

L = 7228 / 4

L = 1807

Since 1807 mm = 1.807 m you can write the result as:

L = 1.807 m

or

L = 1807 mm
1.807
