A school is raising money to build a new auditorium!  It costs $6,500 to hire a worker to put in new floors in the auditorium.  The other information about the cost of the project is below:

The teachers have already raised $500.

There are twelve teachers trying to help the school raise money and each teacher raises the same amount of money.

The teachers organize a car wash and earn $10 for each car they wash.

How many cars must each teacher wash to raise enough money to complete the new auditorium?

2 answers

Worker costs: $6,500
Money raised: $500
$10/car wash

$6500/$10=650 cars

If you are looking for the answer subtract the money that has already been raised, it would be:
$6,500-$500=$6000
$6000/$10=600 cars
Forgot to divide by twelve:
650/12=54
Each teacher will have to wash approx. 54 cars.

600/12=50
Each teacher will have to wash exactly 50 cars.
