7%/100 = .07 is correct
however to increase something by 7% you add .07 times the original amount. In other words multiply by 1.07.
What you did was find what 900 was 7% of, a very large number compared to 900.
Use the "does my answer make sense test". If I only increase 900 by 7% will it really be over twelve thousand? That sure would be a lot of new students.
