A piece of metal is bent into a rectangle and has a length which is 5 times as long as its width. If the perimeter of the piece of metal is 13 feet 6 inches, find the length and the width of the piece of sheet metal.

You must use a variable , write an equation and solve the equation!

5(X) = 13' 6"

5(X) = 162 inches

32.4 inches or 2.7 feet

is this correct

2 answers

no

if the width is x feet then the length is 5x feet
perimeter = 2width + 2 length
so ..
2x + 2(5x) = 13.5
12x = 13.5
x = 1.125 feet

so the width is 1 1/8 feet
the length is 5(1.125) = 5 5/8 feet
