A piece of iron weighs 45 oz and has a volume of 10 in^3. Determine the density of iron in g/cm^3.

2 answers

density=mass/iron

Now the wording "weighs 45oz" bothers me. This is one reason one should never use English units, it is not clear 45oz mass or force(weight). Nuts to using English units.

Lets assume it is mass.
density=45oz/10in^3*(1 in/2.54cm)^3*1lb/16oz*454grams/lb

= 4.5*454/(2.54^3*16)=7.791g/cm^3

check that
