A man having 20 litres of petrol in his car, uses it for 600 km. How many kilometers will the same man travel with 19.25 litres.
2 answers
(19.25 / 20) * 600
There are two ways to analyze these rate problems:
a) Ratio analysis. 600km:20L::x/19.25 or
600/20=distance/19.25 and then distance= 19.25*600/20
b. Rate analysis. The rate of fuel consumption is 20liters/600km
The rate is constant, no matter the distance: 20Liters/600km= 19.25/DISTANCE and solving then
distance=(600km/20L)(19.25L)

The rate is constant, no matter the distance: 20Liters/600km= 19.25/DISTANCE and solving then
distance=(600km/20L)(19.25L)
