A lion sees a zebra about 1000 ft away. A lion can run at 50 mph and a zebra has been clocked at 40 mph. How long will it take the lion to catch the zebra?

1 answer

They both would have run the same time.
Let that time be t hrs.
distance covered by zebra = 40t miles
distance covered by lion = 50t miles
The difference in their distances is 1000 ft or 1000/5280 miles

50t - 40t = 1000/5280
10t = 1000/5280
t = 100/5280 = .0189.. hrs
= 1.13636.. minutes
= appr 68 seconds
