A cyclist traveled at a rate of 32 mph to visit a nearby town. The cyclist averaged 10 mph on the return trip. If the round trip took 6.3 hours, find the distance to the nearby town

1 answer

let the time on the first trip be t hours, then the time on the return trip is 6.3-t hours
distance for first trip = 32t
distance fro second trip = 10(6.3-t)

but the distance would be the same each way, so
32t = 10(6.3-t)
solve for t, put that back into 32t to get the distance
