A chunk of silver has a heat capacity of 42.8 J for 1ºC and a mass of 181g. Calculate the specific heat of silver.

7 answers

The specific heat (C) is the heat capacity (M*C) divided by the mass (M).

The heat capacity is the energy required to raise the entire mass by 1 degrees C. In this case, it is 42.8 J/C.
42.8/181 = ___ J/(gC)
42.8 divided by 181 equals 0.236
Hey this helps a lot it really does. But can you explain to me why it works?
