This is really an accounting question I think.
However I would look at the various points and regions on a number line sketch.
For example if your balance is exactly -25, then I suspect your debt is exactly 25
If your balance is less (to the left on your number line) than -25, for example -35 , then your debt is GREATER than 25
If your balance is greater than -25 (to the right on a number line), for example -10, then your debt is LESS than 25
However I would look at the various points and regions on a number line sketch.
