(-2)/(x-1)=(x-8)/(x+6)

is 7/8 the answer for this question

1 answer

(-2)/(x-1)=(x-8)/(x+6)

First mulitply both sides by (x-1) and (x+6) to getthe terms out of the denominator.

-2(x+6) = (x-8)(x-1)

Multiply.

-2x-12 = x^2-9x-8

Combine like terms.

x^2-7x+4 = 0

x(x-7) = -4

X = -4 or 3

Unless there are typos in the original equation, I don't see any other solution(s). How did you get 7/8?

I hope this helps. Thanks for asking.
