during a clinical study, a medical company found 3 out of 70 people experienced a side effect when using a certain medicine. The company predicts 63,000 people will use the medicine next year. How many people are expected to experience a side effect?
3/70=x/63000

18900=70x
x=2700
is this correct? thanks

Ms. Sue no it isn't!!

Elle you need to divide 70 of each side! your equation will be 18900/70=70x/70
then for your final answer: you will get x=270

Cross multiply.

70x = 189,000

x = 2,700

Anonymous, that not very nice! but Ms. Sue why would you cross multiply? you should just divide to get x by itself. and get x=270 just like Anonymous said
