First you add the equations.
-5y and 5y cross each out so you are left with 3x=-40
X= -40/3
Plug x back into one of the equations
-3x-5y=-6
-3(-40/3)-5y=-6
-40-5y=-6
-5y= 34
Y=34/-5

Correction: It should be positive 40-5y=-6
So -5y=-46
Y=46/5
