This would make the expression undefined, since we cannot divide by zero.

So set the denominator equal to zero, solve for the variable, and the solution becomes the restriction for your function

e.g. y = 5x/(x^ - 9)

solve x^2 - 9 = 0
x = ± 3
So the restriction is that x ≠ ± 3
