What are some positive contributions that fat people have made to society?

Well, I suppose you could say that they helped the economy to flourish, by purchasing all the fatty foods that lead to their obesity.

Famous overweight people I can think of include: Winston Churchill, Aretha Frankin, Oprah Winfrey, King Henry VIII.

Look around you. Overweight people have contributed the same things to society as slimmer people.

Thanks; Eve's answer is more along the lines of what my teacher is looking for. The question is asking what fat people, as a group, have contributed to the American dream. We are also supposed to examine some of the drawbacks of having a substantial obese population in this country.

Have you considered how they might effect the whole dieting industry from diet foods to exercise, clothing for extra large (XL, XXL and larger) sizes and/or oversized furniture?

Otherwise, you might as well ask about the contributions of brown-eyed people, redheads or people with freckles. Weight alone does not seem to have a signficant effect on the contributions of individuals to society. However, the attitudes that people have toward others with excessive weight has a signficant effect.
