P(pass Maths)=b
P(Both pass)= (1+a)(1+b)
P(Both fail)=(1-a)(1-b)
=1 -b-a+ ab
=1-(b+a)+ab
P(pass English)= a
P(pass Maths)=b
P(Both pass)= (1+a)(1+b)
P(Both fail)=(1-a)(1-b)
=1 -b-a+ ab
=1-(b+a)+ab
