do just like you would with numbers, break them down into prime factors. Then "collect" them so all are represented.
3x^2 = 3*x*x
12y = 3*2*2*y
10x^3y^3 = 2*5*x*x*x*y*y*y
so we need: 2*2*3*5*x*x*x*y*y*y
= 60x^3y^3
3x^2 = 3*x*x
12y = 3*2*2*y
10x^3y^3 = 2*5*x*x*x*y*y*y
so we need: 2*2*3*5*x*x*x*y*y*y
= 60x^3y^3
