I have to write an attention getting statement for a speech and I don't know where to start

Have you written the speech yet? Or at least an outline of it? Do you have a main idea (thesis statement)?

Writing a speech is much like writing an essay ... and you don't start with the intro!! Write the intro, including an attention-getting statement AFTER you have the body of the speech (essay) at least drafted.
