multiply all terms in the top equation by two:
+4 x - 8 y = 4
-4 x + 6 y = -4
---------------- add
0 x - 2 y = 0
y = 0
then
2 x - 0 = 2
x = 1
+4 x - 8 y = 4
-4 x + 6 y = -4
---------------- add
0 x - 2 y = 0
y = 0
then
2 x - 0 = 2
x = 1
