The base of a triangular sail is 5ft less than its height The area is 42ft^2.Find the base and height of the sail.

ht = X Ft.
Base = X-5)

Area = B/2 * h = 42.
(x-5)/2 * x = 42
(x-5)x = 84
x^2-5x = 84
x^2-5x-84 = 0
(x+7)(x-12) = 0
X = -7, and 12 Ft. = ht.

Base = 12-5 = 7 Ft.
