here is my question
Why did socialism appeal to some Americans in the late 1800s?
Many people were disturbed by the horrendous working conditions for laborers in factories. They worked long hours, made very little money, and therefore lived economically impoverished lives. This was dramatically contrasted with the rich factory owners and other wealthy people who had many luxuries and made money from investments, rather than physical labor.
Socialism offered to change these inequities and provide a better living for laborers.
