Factorise (x - 1)^2 - 4y^2

(X-1)(x-1)-4y^2

x^ 2 -x -x +1 -4y^2

x^2 -2x + 1 -4y^2

(x -2y-1)(x +2y -1)
or, as the difference of squares,

((x-1)-2y)((x-1)+2y)
