How did Louis XVI’s weak leadership contribute to the growing crisis in France?

Louis and both his wife didn't seem to care about governing. His wife always gave him poor advice and ended to spend a lot of money gowns, jewels, gambling, and gifts, which lead France into deep dept. Louis also inherited dept fromthe previous kings."He borrowed heavily in order to help the american revolutionaries in their war against great britian. [Which was Frances rival] Soon banks didn't lend louis any more money, so louis was in serious problems. Louis left his people poor and leaving them wondering how they would make it.
