first, 1 cm is not 3 inches, I don't know why a teacher would tell you to use that. Maybe they think the world is whole numbers. Itis closer to 1 inch is 3 cm (actually 2.54cm)
A yield sign is a triangle, if I remember.
the perimeter is 12 inches, so half the perimeter is 6 inches.
Area=sqrt(s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)) where s is 6, and a,b,c are each side.
area=sqrt(6*2*2*2)=4sqrt3
area=4*1.7 cm^2 0r according to your assumptrion, then area=4*1.7=6.8cm^2
but 6.8cm^2(1in^2/2.53^2cm^2)=about 1square inch
