How do you subract the fraction 2/5 and 4/9?

Form a common denominator and subtract the numerators, like this:
20/45 - 18/45 = (20-18)/45 = ?

I assume you wanted 2/5 subtracted from 4/9, not the other way around. If you want 2/5 - 4/9, the sign changes.
