for my science fair project i am dropping a baseball from different heights and measuring its kinetic and potential energy. what would the independent and dependent variable be?

the potential energy DEPENDS on the height (which you choose independently of the equation), as does the kinetic energy after falling a distance h.
I might be tempted to drop baseballs and beach balls and cotton candy to show that air friction is also part of the deal.
