Let x = the pad of paper.
x + x - 0.4 = 1.80
2x = 1.40
x = 0.70
x + x - 0.4 = 1.80
2x = 1.40
x = 0.70

P + N = 1.80
N = P + .40
P +(P+ .40) = 1.80
2 P = 1.40
P = 0.70
N = P+ .40 = 1.10
N = P + .40
P +(P+ .40) = 1.80
2 P = 1.40
P = 0.70
N = P+ .40 = 1.10
