Why would a person who's blood gasses indicate metabolic acidosis be at risk for hyperkalemia?

The only thing I could really conclude was that perhaps if there is an increase in H+ in the blood then then in order to compensate, K+ might move out of the cells and into the plasma in order to compensate and the H+ would move into the cells?

Also acidosis may result in impaired renal function so K+ isn't being cleared out into the urine.

Could someone let me know if my thinking is somewhat correct? Thank you.
