I have a feeling you meant:
11x + 3y = 12 (the + and = are the same key)
for 3x = 9 ---> x = 3
then ...
11(3) + 3y = 12
3y = 12-33
3y = -21
y = -7

x = 3 , y = -7

Thanks for writing this. I heard sihotmeng today on the radio about living with our regrets and embracing some of the sadness that comes with it.
