amount invested at 5% ---- x
amount invested at 2% ----- 1100 -x
.05x + .02(1100-x) = 49
.05x + 22 - .02x = 49
.03x = 27
x = 27/.03 = 900
<b>invested at 5% = 900
invested at 2% = 200</b>
check: 900+200=1100
.05(900) +.02(200) = 49
all is good!

Ahh makes much more sense when Reiny did it. I remember learning this in algebra. I have a tendency to give everything its own variable, which makes the problem impossible to solve i guess.
