Glass bricks are used where people want light allowed through, but still have privacy. What do the bricks do to make this happen?

Please help I have searched everything and can not find the answer.

The Glass Bricks are Translucent which
means light can pass through, but you
cannot see through them. The bricks,
actually, diffuses the light which
allows only a fraction of the light to
pass through.
