This is a mixed ezpression written as fraction and then to be put in simplest form.

3/1 minus 2x-2/x^2-1

3 - 2(x-1)/((x-1)(x+1))
3 - 2/(x+1)
(3(x+1)-2)/(x+1)
(3x+1)/(x+1)
