    Let x = the area of the garden.
1/3x + 1/3x + 48 = x
48 = 1/3x
48 / (1/3) = x
48 * (3/1) = 144 sq. ft.
square root of 144 = 12

1/3x + 1/3x + 48 = x
48 = 1/3x
48 / (1/3) = x
48 * (3/1) = 144 sq. ft.
square root of 144 = 12
