Neither are true, and neither are good arguments. Coal is more abundant now, and cheaper per energy produced if you are running a dirty coal powqer plant, but it is a worse source of pollution and the mnining of it is a worse environmental problem than offshore oil drilling. The second argument is even more ridiculous.
The technology to produce liquid fuels from coal (which are needed for transportation mainly) is available, but you yet economically competitive with petroleum. In another decade it may be.
