Let the original amounts be M and P.
M + P = 480
P - 20 = 3 M
Subtract the second equation from the first.
M + 20 = 480 - 3 M
4 M = 460
M = 115 rupees
P = 365
M + P = 480
P - 20 = 3 M
Subtract the second equation from the first.
M + 20 = 480 - 3 M
4 M = 460
M = 115 rupees
P = 365

I didn't understand your workings and what solution did you make it in. And when l divided 3 with 480 so l got the answer of 160. And when minus the following number 160 into 20 so l got the answer of 140.

First Peter will spend 20
SO,
480-20=460
THEN divided by 4 Since Peter has the three times of what marry has
So,
460÷4=115
Then 115×3=345
So Peter Has 345
And marry has 115
Which will be
345+115=460
Done.
