Suppose that you must order concrete for a sidewalk that is to be 58 ft by 3 ft to a depth of 6 in. How much concrete is required? (Answer to the nearest 1/2 cubic yard.)

1 ft = 12 in

6 in = 0.5 ft

V = 58 * 3 * 0.5 = 87 ft ^ 3

1 yd = 3 ft

1 yd ^ 3 = 3 ^ 2 = 27 ft ^ 3

87 / 27 = 3.222 yd ^ 3

approx. 3 yd ^ 3
