when dividing, subtract exponents:
8x^1/3 / x^1/2 = 8x^(1/3 - 1/2) = 8x^(-1/6) = 8/x^1/6
or,
8x^1/3 / (x^1/3 * x^1/6)
the x^1/3's cancel, leaving
8/x^1/6
now, if it was (8x)^1/3, then since 8=2^3, replace all those 8's by 2's in the later steps.
8x^1/3 / x^1/2 = 8x^(1/3 - 1/2) = 8x^(-1/6) = 8/x^1/6
or,
8x^1/3 / (x^1/3 * x^1/6)
