Tickets to King Middle School play cost $1 for King students and $3 for everyone else. Rose, a student at King Middle School, went to the play with friends from another school. the group paid a total of $13 for the tickets. How many friends went to see the play with Rose?

Your "let" statement should be a complete English sentence with proper grammar
e.g.
let the number of friends that went with her be x
3x + 1 = 13
3x = 12
x = 4
So , four friends went with her.
e.g.
let the number of friends that went with her be x

#2 is not correct, you should have checked your answer with a calculator
Here is the way I would do that one
let x = .54060606...
times 100, since 2 digits repeat
100x = 54.060606
subtract
99x = 53.52 , make sure you line up the decimals in the subtraction to see how I got that
x = 53.52/99 = 5352/9900
now reduce ...
= 446/825
on calculator: 446/825 = .54060606...
