A submarine was floating on the water. It went under the water at a rate of 0.5m/second for 3 minutes. It then started to rise towards the surface at a rate of 0.7m/second for 1.5 minutes. What is the depth of the submarine?
The hint my teacher gave me was: make sure your working in minutes or seconds. Also draw a picture or use logic.

It went under the water at a rate of 0.5m/second for 3 minutes.
0.5 * 180 = 90 meters in 3 minutes
It then started to rise towards the surface at a rate of 0.7m/second for 1.5 minutes.
0.7 * 90 = 63 meters in 1.5 minutes
What is the depth of the submarine?
90 - 63 = 27 meters
0.5 * 180 = 90 meters in 3 minutes
It then started to rise towards the surface at a rate of 0.7m/second for 1.5 minutes.
0.7 * 90 = 63 meters in 1.5 minutes
