A boat travels 12 miles up a river, then returns to where it started. The trip upriver took one hour longer than the return trip. If the current is 3mph, find the speed of the boat

distance/speed = time
if the boat's speed is s,

12/(s-3) = 1 + 12/(s+3)
s = 9
