The story "The Wedding Gift" by Thomas Raddall makes use of symbolism.

A) Explain what the snow represents.

The snow in the short story is the representation of the hope and destiny. Before the snowfall occurs, future for Kezia is unsatisfactory. As the snowfall occurs Kezia is able to use the weather conditions to her benefit and discover a future that is more hopeful than the one decided by the Barclays.

B) Explain what the character’s footsteps through the snow represent.

The steps of Kezia and Mr. Mears going through the snow represent their breaking away from the rules of the society and deciding on their own destiny. Kezia especially uses the snow to prevent marrying Mr. Hathaway and set course for a new future for herself.
